The Secret Watch 8 Gestures You Need to Know

Published

Turns out, those cool new Galaxy Watch 8 gestures aren’t really new after all—you can use them on any existing Samsung watch.

Samsung just dropped the Galaxy Watch 8 lineup, which includes the Watch 8, 8 Classic, and Watch Ultra. They are all running on the new One UI 8 Watch, which is built on Wear OS 6. The update gives you a fresh-looking interface, redesigned tiles, and some slicker animations and features.

Galaxy Watch gestures:

Samsung’s smartwatches are loaded with gestures, offering a hands-free way to control your device. You can use these gestures for quick actions like launching an app or accepting and declining phone calls.

Here are the three gestures Samsung believes are a secret:

Shake:

To quickly dismiss an app, decline a call, or silence an alarm, just rotate your wrist twice. This gesture is designed for quickly clearing your screen of alerts and activities.

Knock knock:

To quickly launch an app, make a fist and double-tap it down and up with your wrist. This “fist-nod” gesture is a simple way to access features.

Double pinch:

The pinch gesture is the opposite of the shake gesture. You can pinch twice to answer calls, scroll notifications, play/pause music, and take pictures.

It also allows you to define opening the app shown at the bottom of your watch face. If you customize, it takes the place of the Shake gesture too by letting you dismiss or mute alerts.

Samsung US recently promoted the Galaxy Watch 8 using “secret gestures,” but these features are old news to most users, as they’ve been available on older watches for a while.

In addition to classic gestures, Samsung watches can also use the Camera Controller app, which lets you operate your Galaxy phone’s camera from your watch for a hands-free experience.

Galaxy Watch owners: that annoying WhatsApp bug is finally gone.

WhatsApp has been malfunctioning on Wear OS smartwatches, showing a message that tells users to update the app through the Play Store.

Users of Wear OS, including the Galaxy Watch, reported an issue where WhatsApp erroneously displayed an “obsolete” notification, incorrectly indicating a required update despite the application being current.

The problem was common across many Wear OS watches, including those from Samsung and OnePlus. It also didn’t depend on the software version, as users on different updates all experienced it.

This severe bug rendered WhatsApp useless on smartwatches as users were not able to open the app due to the notice. It seems the problem has been resolved and everything’s back to the typical working status.

While the bug prevented users from opening the WhatsApp app directly, the service continued to function in the background. Notifications worked normally, so users could still receive and reply to messages.

Following user reports, WhatsApp quickly issued a fix on the Play Store. Updating to the latest version resolves the problem. You can use the original notice to complete the update.

The update is rolling out gradually, so you might get it later than others. You can check manually in the Play Store, or try reinstalling the app to force the latest version.

Samsung’s 200MP Camera: Coming to a Galaxy Phone?

Samsung has introduced a new 200MP camera sensor called the ISOCELL HP5. Despite its high resolution, it is very small. This means phone brands can use it as a powerful main or telephoto camera without making the phone’s camera bump any larger.

The new ISOCELL HP5 sensor is anticipated to debut in phones from Chinese OEMs such as OPPO and realme. These brands, known for their camera-centric strategies, are the most likely early adopters of Samsung’s latest imaging technology.

In accordance with reports, a key strategic decision is at play: Samsung will apparently not utilize its own new ISOCELL HP5 sensor in Galaxy devices for the time being. The company is instead reportedly maintaining its supply chain relationship with Sony by continuing to use the IMX854.

The ISOCELL HP5 sensor has some interesting features. It can zoom in 2 times without losing picture quality. If combined with a 3x telephoto lens, the zoom can go up to 6 times.

Samsung has also incorporated new technologies to help the sensor capture more light, resulting in brighter photos, more accurate colors, and superior clarity.

In spite of mass-producing the HP5 sensor, Samsung is currently allocating it exclusively to other phone brands. As a result, anyone hoping to see this 200MP camera in a Galaxy device will likely be disappointed.

Samsung is making its next update, One UI 8.5. It will have better speed and smart features, but a small, pretty design change is also getting attention. The update has a new picture on the “Software Update” screen that you can save and use as your wallpaper.

Samsung has completely revamped the Software Update page in One UI 8.5. It replaces the former plain design with a colorful and modern one. This new look, defined by its soft gradients and circular forms, offers a serene and tidy feel, closely mirroring the default wallpaper style of the Galaxy A-series.

Many users think the new banner looks like a great wallpaper. Now you can download the high-quality image and set it as your home or lock screen background. Enjoy the new design before the official update even arrives.
