Huawei has packed HarmonyOS 5.1 with new home screen features for the Watch GT 5 series. These additions are all about making your daily use simpler and more efficient.

The HarmonyOS 5.1 update for the Watch GT 5 also includes a new voice memo recorder and a Health Insights app for improved health tracking. Plus, some older features and apps have been refined.

New Features: Home Screen:

  • You’ll love the new Star Ring home screen on your Watch GT 5! It lets you easily switch between app names and large icons just by sliding your finger at the top. Plus, you can freely choose from three different home screen styles: Star Ring, Chessboard, and List.
  • New preset watch faces, easy to play with, and personalized watch faces.
  • “Landscape Ink Realm” adopts Chinese-style design, and the fresh and elegant scroll is vividly displayed on the watch (go to Huawei Health app > Device > My Watch Face)
  • The “universal module” offers endless watch face customization for any scenario. New designs like “Fashion Outline,” “Chronograph,” and “Galaxy Numbers” combine style with practicality.

  • Added a new voice memo for quick voice recording, capturing your inspiration anytime, anywhere.
  • The new Health Insights app helps you track health trends like sleep, heart health, stress, and exercise. It gives you detailed analysis and personalized tips to keep you healthy.
  • The update includes a new average HRV (Heart Rate Variability) indicator for sleep. This helps you understand your physical fatigue and stress levels.

    Just by raising your wrist, you can now see your sleep quality. The watch also monitors your heart rate, breathing, and blood oxygen during sleep to create a personal “sleep baseline” and give you timely health tips.

Optimizations:

  • You can now sync up to 30 frequently used contacts to your watch! This gives you more options for quick access.
  • Optimized the alarm creation process, and you can freely modify the alarm name while creating the alarm.
  • The update expands data tracking for dozens of sports. For example, you will now see step count for stair climbing, altitude for orienteering, and speed/distance for sports like Frisbee and football.
  • It is convenient for you to identify the effect of a single exercise and contribute to systematic and scientific training
  • Messages and live notifications are now easier to use. You will see more types of message icons, making it instantly clear where your information is coming from.

Huawei’s HarmonyOS 6.0 Beta has been installed over 3 million times in its first 24 hours, setting a new record. Chairman Richard Yu announced the milestone, signaling strong early adoption for the software ahead of its official launch.

Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO, Richard Yu, today disclosed significant company milestones via an internal letter on the Xinsheng Community. The communication outlined notable achievements across Huawei’s product portfolio in recent months.

In accordance with Richard Yu, Huawei’s software development this year has been notably successful. He revealed that HarmonyOS NEXT has already reached over 23 million installations, a figure current as of October 22, 2025.

The achievement underscores the company’s resilience in the face of critical circumstances. Yu elaborated on the rigorous development process for their inaugural operating system, a journey driven by a commitment to fulfill user demands.

The chief said that HarmonyOS 6 is something even bigger as it completed 3 million installation within 24 hours of its release, making a new record in the software field.

Huawei is bringing its seamless file transfer feature to Android! After first enabling easy sharing with iPhones, the company has now revealed that Android compatibility is coming soon.

After successfully bridging the gap between HarmonyOS and iPhones with its file transfer tool, Huawei is taking the next logical step: extending this seamless compatibility to the Android platform.

The official word from Huawei is that the Android file transfer capability is steadily progressing. Regular monthly HarmonyOS updates are part of this process, focusing on optimization to ensure flawless performance at launch. While actively being developed, a final release date is still pending.

Huawei’s newly launched HarmonyOS 6 now features a native file-sharing tool for Apple devices. This move directly challenges Apple’s AirDrop, offering a similar short-distance wireless solution for transferring photos and documents over an internet connection.

HarmonyOS supports more than 90 Huawei devices, including the latest flagship phones from Pura and Mate series. The first beta build has been released for the initial phase of eligible devices, and more will be upgraded soon.
