Huawei MateBook Fold to Add New Display Mode with HarmonyOS

The Huawei MateBook Fold PC is getting a cool new display feature soon! A company official recently shared that the foldable PC will receive screen upgrades through an upcoming software update.
Good news for Huawei MateBook Fold PC owners! Bruce Lee, who is a top tech boss at Huawei (CTO of their Device Business Group), announced today that the MateBook Fold will get a cool new “DP in” display mode. This means you will be able to use your MateBook Fold as an external screen for other devices, making visuals even better.

DisplayPort (or just DP) is a type of digital connection, mostly used to hook up a computer to a monitor. It’s really good at sending lots of information quickly, which means you get super clear pictures and smooth motion on your screen.
The best part of DisplayPort over HDMI is that the latter supports only one monitor. However, the DP can support multiple monitors at the same time without interruptions.
Bruce Lee confirmed that the MateBook Fold is already built to handle this “DP in” mode. This means you can actually use its big 18-inch screen as a portable display for other devices. He also mentioned you could even connect a handheld game console to it for a better gaming experience.
Even though this “DisplayPort in” feature for the MateBook Fold is still being tested, Huawei has confirmed it will be released soon. You will get it through upcoming updates to their HarmonyOS software.

Future Huawei PC: Is a 2-in-1 HarmonyOS Laptop Coming?

Huawei is planning to release a new 2-in-1 laptop, likely called the MateBook E, which will run on their own HarmonyOS 5.0. They haven’t given an exact release date yet, but they’ve hinted that it will come with some impressive new features and improvements.
At their HDC 2025 event, Huawei announced two new HarmonyOS computers coming out this year. One of them will even have a really cool “detachable keyboard” design.
According to the Weibo leaker @FixedFocus, Huawei is getting ready to release a new 2-in-1 HarmonyOS PC. Many believe this will be the MateBook E 2025, which would be a timely update since the series hasn’t seen a new model since 2023.

The tipster also mentioned that this new PC will be incredibly versatile. They mean it’ll be super easy to continue using apps across different devices, transfer data seamlessly, and connect to multiple devices without any hassle.
The addition of the HarmonyOS PC software system means Huawei’s HarmonyOS is now on a wider range of devices than ever. It’s now available on PCs, alongside smartphones, wearables, earbuds, tablets, smart cars, and home appliances.
As a result, it is quite easy to explore an application on Huawei PC, tablets, and smartphones. One can have a seamless experience between all these devices.
It is been three years since Huawei updated its MateBook E, which is a device that’s both a tablet and a laptop. They’ve improved many other product lines, but this one has been waiting since 2022.
It really seems like Huawei’s next HarmonyOS PC will be the MateBook E 2025, considering what Huawei themselves hinted at and what a recent leak suggested.

Kirin X90 Chip Likely for Future Huawei HarmonyOS Desktops

Huawei’s next two HarmonyOS PCs (H2 2025) will likely continue to use the Kirin X90 chip, with no processor change anticipated for the year.
A leak suggests Huawei won’t update its PC chip this year, sticking with the Kirin X90 for new HarmonyOS models.
Even though Huawei’s new computers this year will use the same chip, some people on the internet are guessing that next year (2026), Huawei’s PC chip will get a big upgrade, possibly using a newer, smaller 5nm technology.
When Huawei launched its HarmonyOS MateBook Pro and foldable PCs with the Kirin X90, many expected a 5nm chip. But TechInsights’ detailed look inside revealed it’s still using the 7nm process.
Huawei PCs, powered by the Kirin X90 and enhanced by software, boast amazing features and strong AI capabilities, outperforming older Windows-based MateBooks.

But with the help of software capabilities, the Kirin X90 chip is offering a significant boost to Huawei PCs. These notebooks carry a set of amazing features and AI capabilities over the traditional Windows-based MateBook versions.
The latest information from Huawei indicates that their future PCs will facilitate direct app installation from external sources, in addition to or instead of their proprietary HarmonyOS app gallery.
Huawei’s next generation of PCs will offer a tablet-like mode thanks to their detachable keyboards, aiming to provide a seamless 2-in-1 experience, a concept previously seen in their MateBook E line from 2022.
The biggest change this time will be the HarmonyOS software itself. This means we can expect the new MateBook computers to be much better at handling many tasks at once.
