Android 16 released, when is Samsung One UI 8 coming?

Android 16

Android 16 is here now, and it came out sooner than expected on June 10, 2025. But if you have a Samsung Galaxy phone, you’ll still have to wait a bit longer for One UI 8.

Samsung is working fast on a test version of One UI 8. However, the final version for everyone to use might still be a month or two away. It is  likely that the official release will happen around the same time Samsung launches its new foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7. Let’s see what this means for Samsung phone users.

The first test version of Android 16 came out in January 2025. Google worked very quickly, and because of that, a really good version of Android 16 is ready much earlier than usual. It has smoother movements, better AI features, and stronger security.

Android 16’s first test version came out in January 2025.Google worked fast, so Android 16 is ready early. It has smoother animations, better AI, and stronger security.

For Samsung, this early release of Android 16 is both good and a bit tricky. The company has been working closely with Google to make sure their own software, One UI 8, works well with the new Android 16. This teamwork is really helping them out.

Samsung says One UI 8 will be out “this summer” (June-August) in the US. However, while Google’s Pixel phones already have Android 16, Galaxy users are still in the test phase or waiting for the official release.

Samsung wasted no time kicking off the One UI 8 Beta Program, launching it on May 28, 2025, for the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra in Germany, South Korea, the UK, and the US. This is Samsung’s earliest beta release yet.

Samsung has confirmed that the stable One UI 8 update will first come on their new foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, when they launch this summer. These new foldables will have One UI 8 and Android 16 right away. Other Galaxy phones will get the One UI 8 update shortly after the foldables are released.

The Galaxy S25 series, which is already in the beta testing program, could see the stable update as early as August, with the S24, S23, and other flagships like the Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 close behind.

Why the Wait?

Android 16 is here, but Galaxy users still wait for One UI 8. That’s because One UI 8 adds Samsung’s own new features, like a better Now Brief and Quick Share. Testing these on all Samsung phones takes time.

Samsung is making sure One UI 8 is better by testing it early and rolling it out in stages. This avoids the problems they had with One UI 7, giving all users a more stable update, even if it takes a bit more time.

What’s Next for Galaxy Users?

If you have an S25 and are in a test region, you can join the One UI 8 Beta now.

Otherwise, you’ll need to wait for the final release.

The new Galaxy Z Fold7 or Z Flip7 will have One UI 8 already installed when they launch, probably in late July or early August.

For everyone else, keep an eye on the Samsung Members app for news on when you will get it.

pixel 10 & Watch 4

Google is holding its “Made by Google 2025” event on August 20. They’ll show off the new Pixel 10 phone and Watch 4. These new devices will go up against Samsung’s Galaxy S25 phone and Watch 8.

Google is bringing Made by Google 2025 to New York City, a notable change from the Pixel 9 series launch in Mountain View, and the same place Samsung recently showcased its foldables.

  • When it starts: Google’s main event will begin at 10:00 AM in California (PT), which is 1:00 PM in New York (ET).
  • For us in India: That means it will be 10:30 PM (IST) on August 20th for you.
  • How to watch: You can watch it live online from anywhere! It will also be a live event with people there, similar to how Samsung recently did their big show.
  • What to expect: Google will likely show off new and improved things for Android 16 (the next version of the phone software) and Wear OS 6 (the software for smartwatches).

  • New Pixels & Watch 4 Incoming: Expect Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold phones, plus the Pixel Watch 4 (with Wear OS 6).
  • Google’s 2025 Devices: Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, and 10 Pro Fold phones, plus Pixel Watch 4 with Wear OS 6, are likely.

Pixel 10 smartphones may offer significant performance improvements as the Tensor G5 is now made by TSMC. Android 16’s new Material 3 Expressive design may also be an event highlight, impacting all Android devices out there.

If you want a fancy smartphone but don’t want Apple or Samsung, Google Pixel is becoming a great choice, even if they don’t sell a ton of them.

Good news for Galaxy A34 5G and A35 5G users! Samsung is busy preparing the big One UI 8 software update for these two popular mid-range phones. It’s in full development.

Galaxy A35 One UI 8 Update:

Samsung is definitely working on the One UI 8 update for the Galaxy A35. We know this because its early software was listed on Samsung’s update server recently. And to show how far along they are, the phone has already been tested on Geekbench with the new software, achieving scores of 1027 for single-core and 2502 for multi-core performance.

What’s new in One UI 8?

  1. User interface – Samsung’s new update has subtle UI changes and more focus on refining the user interface and appearance.
  2. Enhanced apps – One UI 8 brings enhanced Samsung apps with a clean interface, easier navigation, and deeper integration with others.
  3. Smarter Photo Editing: The “Object Eraser” tool, which lets you remove unwanted things from your photos, will be faster and work more accurately.
  4. Other Goodies: There will be even more cool new features and improvements to discover!

What’s next?

Samsung is testing its new One UI 8 software on many phones, including the popular Galaxy A34 and A35. This is a normal part of how they make software, and the test version will change a lot before it’s officially released to everyone.

Seeing the software listed is only the beginning. Don’t expect the update to drop immediately. Samsung will later share a clear plan for when each phone will get the update, and you can check the Samsung Members app for that schedule.
