Huawei’s Mate 40 series gets 5G-A
Good news for Mate 40 users: Huawei confirms 5G-A support with HarmonyOS 5.0, with future upgrades planned. The company is now considering another advanced technology support for the efficient models.
Huawei’s been testing a super-fast 5.5G network on its phones. The new Mate 70 Pro+ handles it even better than the Mate 60 Pro.
Huawei’s customer support has confirmed that the Mate 40 series can use the faster 5G-A network. While responding to a netizen regarding which Huawei phones can support a 5G-A network, an official moderator said.
Xixi found out that the 5G Mate 40 phones can now use the faster 5G-A network.
Previous month, the head of Huawei’s smart device division hinted that they are still thinking about giving the Mate 40 series a big software update, like HarmonyOS 5.0.
5G-A, also called 5G-Advanced or 5.5G, is a big upgrade to regular 5G. It makes your internet experience much better.
Super Fast Downloads:
It can download things incredibly quickly, up to 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps). That’s like getting a full movie in just a few seconds!
It uses advanced features, almost like the network can “sense” and “think.” This “synesthesia” means the network can understand its surroundings and combine different types of information.
Note that the 5G-A is only compatible with the Mate 40 5G models and not the 4G ones.
The Huawei Mate 40 series phones are powerful. They use a 5G Kirin 9000 chip, making them very fast. They’re also known for their excellent cameras, featuring a 50MP main camera, a 20MP ultrawide camera for wider shots, and a 12MP camera with 5x zoom to bring distant objects closer.

The Mate 40 Pro phone has a beautiful 6.76-inch curved screen that’s super smooth because it refreshes 90 times per second. It also has a big 4400mAh battery that charges really fast, both with a wire (66W) and wirelessly (50W).

Huawei’s Operating System Installed Over 16 Million Times
The open-source OS openEuler is expected to surpass 16 million installations by the end of this year, according to Huawei.
Addressing an operating system conference in Beijing, Huawei executive Yang Chaobin said the relentless pace of AI-driven change in every industry is creating computing needs that exceed what traditional clusters can provide.
He emphasized Huawei’s commitment to fostering a healthy open-source ecosystem by opening its core technologies to industry partners. As a key contribution, the company has provided the open-source Euler community with an operating system plugin that supports supernodes, delivering essential capabilities including unified memory addressing, low-latency heterogeneous computing, and global resource pooling.
The openEuler community, now in its sixth year, reports widespread global adoption with support from 2,100 organizations and a contributor base exceeding 23,000 individuals. The project has also recorded over 5.5 million users.
However, the cumulative user base for the operating system is expected to grow to more than 16 million by the end of 2025.

Major names like AMD, Inspur Cloud, and Digital China have joined the openEuler community this year, propelling its install base to record levels. The operating system is also seeing sustained growth in popularity across China’s industrial sector.
It is widely applied to industries such as the internet, networking, government affairs, finance, public utilities, and energy.

Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro Gains Tap-to-Pay with New OS.
Huawei has begun rolling out the HarmonyOS 6.0.0.20 update to the Watch GT 5 Pro, bringing the highly anticipated tap-to-pay functionality. For now, access is limited to participants of the early testing program.
The September 2024-introduced Huawei Watch GT 5 series offers both standard and Pro variants. These watches boast a vibrant palette including Titanium Silver and Glacier White, alongside a long-lasting 14-day battery.
The HarmonyOS 6 beta for the Watch GT 5 Pro packs even more upgrades beyond tap-to-pay. Here’s a look at the other new features.
The update introduces highly customizable sticker watch faces. Beyond choosing from three unique and flexible layouts, the key feature is the ability to upload your own custom stickers. You can display up to five personal images at the same time, enabling deep personalization for a unique look.

The new “Module 2025” watch face supports a free combination of various-sized widgets and allows for easy switching of theme colors, boasting that “it looks good no matter how you style it.”
This update enables Alipay’s “Tap to Pay” feature for swift and easy transactions. The process is seamless: just raise your wrist and tap the screen, even from an off state. To protect your payments, a lock screen password must be entered for confirmation if one is set on your watch.
Please note that this feature is currently only available for users in China. A global release has not been announced by Huawei.
