US wants to stop Huawei’s HarmonyOS worldwide.

US legislators are now allegedly asking the US and its allies to stop Huawei’s HarmonyOS from growing worldwide. The lawmakers think China could use its operating system, instead of just chips, for spying.
In accordance to to Nikkei Asia, two US lawmakers, John Moolenaar and Raja Krishnamoorthi, wrote a letter. They are both important members of a House committee that focuses on the Chinese Communist Party.
US lawmakers want Trump’s former officials to help allies stop Huawei’s HarmonyOS worldwide.
Now, after worrying about Huawei’s Ascend AI chips, US lawmakers also see the Chinese-made HarmonyOS as a big danger to US safety.
The letter reads:
Because foreign operating systems from countries we do not trust could seriously harm our national security and global power, it is really important to carefully check HarmonyOS. We also need to work with our friends and allies to stop it from being used in devices everywhere.
Inputs reveal that the letter is sent on Friday to the Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Brendan Carr, chairman of the FCC.
Huawei’s HarmonyOS is used in phones, tablets, computers, cars, and smart gadgets. Lawmakers think China could use this system to spy. They worry future updates might add ways to collect data.
The letter points out that Huawei follows China’s laws and helps its intelligence work. By reason of this, products using HarmonyOS could be used for spying online and could help China control things digitally.
The US needs to take a close look at how HarmonyOS is built and how it works. They also need to make sure that our friends and partners worldwide know that Huawei, and therefore the Chinese Communist Party, controls HarmonyOS.
Lawmakers also said the US government should tell its friends to use safe operating systems instead of risky ones. Now, the US is focusing on Chinese operating systems, after making tougher rules for Huawei’s Ascend AI chips.

HarmonyOS
Huawei is about to show its first computer with HarmonyOS next week. It’s also selling its HarmonyOS smart car technology to big companies like Toyota and BMW around the world. It will be interesting to see how this affects Huawei and the US.
