In Q1 2023, Samsung emerged as the leader in the Middle Eastern smartphone market, with Apple following closely behind. Despite a year-on-year decline in smartphone shipments in the region (excluding Turkey), the market performed better than expected, surpassing initial expectations.

New data from Canalys reveals that the Middle Eastern smartphone market experienced a smaller decline than anticipated in Q1 2023. Market watchers had initially expected a 13% annual decline, but the actual decline was only 3.5% year-on-year. During the first quarter, a total of 8.8 million smartphones were shipped to the Middle East.

In Saudi Arabia, smartphone shipments experienced a growth of 1% compared to the previous year. Conversely, in the UAE, there was a decline of 3% in smartphone shipments year-on-year. Similarly, Iraq saw a 3% decline in smartphone shipments, while Kuwait recorded an 11% annual decline in shipments.

On the other hand, Israel witnessed a significant increase in smartphone shipments, with a growth of 26% year-on-year. This growth can be attributed to the growing demand for premium smartphones among consumers in the country.

In Q1 2023, Samsung maintained its position as the leader in smartphone shipments in the Middle East, despite experiencing negative annual growth. The company shipped 3.8 million smartphones, capturing 43% of the market share. Apple followed with 1.3 million shipments, accounting for 15% of the market and recording impressive annual growth of 35.4%.

Xiaomi secured the third position with 1 million smartphone shipments and an 11% market share. Transsion and Oppo followed closely behind with 0.9 million and 0.3 million shipments, respectively, capturing 11% and 4% of the market share.

Market watchers have noted the growing momentum of Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series, which contributed to increased sales and shipment figures in Q1. However, analysts also highlight that the Galaxy A series continues to play a significant role in driving market share in the Middle East, despite the decline in annual shipments.

S26 Ultra Display Upgrade: Better Visuals, More Battery

Samsung Galaxy s26

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is gearing up for a next-generation display. According to a reliable tip, it could feature CoE OLED and “depolarization technology.” These innovations promise to deliver a noticeably clearer screen, extend battery life, and contribute to a sleeker overall design.

This new CoE OLED will make screens thinner and use less power, which means your phone’s battery could last longer! You will also see more vibrant colors and less annoying reflections on the screen, making everything look better.

Thanks to the new CoE OLED screen making light pass through better, the display uses less energy. This means your Galaxy S26 Ultra could actually last longer on a single charge than the S25 Ultra, even if they have the same size battery! Plus, because the screen itself will be thinner, the whole phone could end up with an even slimmer design.

CoE OLED:

CoE OLED replaces the legacy polarizer with a color filter and swaps the standard Pixel Definition Layer (PDL) with a black PDL. This change makes the display thinner and boosts light transmission, lowering power consumption.

Adding to the display improvements, a tipster mentioned the Galaxy S26 Ultra will feature a new, advanced third-generation CoE+ anti-reflective coating. This specific coating will further reduce the screen’s thickness and help trim down the phone’s overall weight, allowing Samsung to create a remarkably sleeker and more elegant S26 Ultra.

While the input comes from a trusted source, it remains unconfirmed till Samsung officially spills the beans. The next-gen flagship phones will launch in early 2026, which will bring some notable upgrades over the S25 series.

There’s a strong rumor that the Galaxy S26 Ultra might come with a new 200-megapixel camera sensor from Sony. This sensor could be almost one inch in size, which is a significant upgrade from Samsung’s current ISOCELL HP2 sensor. While some initially thought this big change might only happen with the S27 Ultra, current leaks suggest it’s a real possibility for the S26 Ultra.

Samsung’s head of mobile design recently talked about where phones are headed. He said that future products will focus on connecting all your devices together in a smart way. The Galaxy S26 series might be the first phone where the AI feels so natural, it’s almost like talking to a human.

Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy AI features that come built into your phone by default will stay free forever. This means you won’t have to pay for core tools like Live Translate, Note Assist, Audio Eraser, Generative Edit, and more.

Samsung recently told AndroidPolice (a tech website) that the Galaxy AI features that are already on your Samsung phone when you buy it will always be free. This means you won’t ever have to pay for those pre-installed AI tools.

Galaxy AI features available on Samsung devices include Live Translate, Writing Assist, Interpreter, Note Assist, Transcript Assist, Browsing Assist, Photo Assist, Drawing Assist, Audio Eraser, Object Eraser, Generative Wallpapers, and many more.

Galaxy phones use Android, so they also get Google’s Gemini AI. New flagship phones offer a 6-month free trial of Gemini Advanced (with extra storage). Any future charges for Gemini are up to Google.

Following the Unpacked event, TM Roh was questioned by the media regarding the possibility of Galaxy AI becoming a paid service. Dr. Roh confirmed that the features will be free until the close of 2025. He added that the decision to monetize them (charge money) is still under discussion.

Samsung and Google will probably launch a special set of extra AI features you can pay for. This subscription would give you full access to advanced AI tools (like making new things with AI) and all the benefits of Google’s Gemini Advanced.

Samsung, the big tech company from Korea, is putting all its effort into artificial intelligence (AI). Whenever a new top-tier Samsung phone comes out, AI is the most important feature. Even Samsung’s head designer dreams of making AI feel like a real human in their future products.

If there’s a Galaxy AI feature you really like, you don’t need to worry about paying for it. Samsung will keep offering the features that come with your phone for free. There might be an extra subscription later for even more exciting tools, but the main ones stay free.
