The Wear OS 4 update will introduce Material You to Galaxy Watches, allowing users to personalize the appearance of their device’s interface to better suit their preferences.

Google announced the Wear OS 4 update at the 2023 Google I/O event. It’s based on Android 13, which is a major improvement over Android 11, the base for Wear OS 3.5. The update will be available for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 and will bring longer battery life and improved apps. Additionally, the update will introduce Material You design to the smartwatches, allowing users to customize the appearance of their device’s interface.

A few months ago, it was reported that Google was working on bringing Material You design to Wear OS. Now that the Developer Preview version of Wear OS 4 has been released, experts have discovered that the software does indeed include elements of Material You. Although Google hasn’t officially announced this feature, developers have found accent colors in the quick settings section of the software that indicates the presence of Material You design.

Google has updated the Wear Watchface API to allow watch faces to report their colors to the operating system. This enables the operating system to use those colors for buttons, toggles, icons, and even text. While the implementation of Material You in Wear OS 4 isn’t complete, it’s expected that future updates will allow accent colors to change based on the watch’s face.

Android 11 didn’t have Material You, but Google introduced it with Android 12. Samsung’s smartwatches, which will get the Wear OS 4 update as part of One UI 5 Watch later this year, will also get the Material You feature. This is similar to how the Color Palette feature was introduced to Galaxy phones and tablets with the One UI 4 update.

whatsapp wearOS version

Now you can chat, call, and connect with ease, all from your wrist! WhatsApp is now available on Wear OS smartwatches, making it easier than ever to stay in touch with friends and family. With the app, you can view messages, send texts, voice messages, emojis, and make calls directly from your wearable device. Plus, if you have an LTE-capable smartwatch, you can enjoy WhatsApp even without your phone nearby. Embrace the freedom of communication with WhatsApp on Wear OS.

WhatsApp is releasing its Wear OS app now to build momentum for Samsung’s Unpacked event next week. This is because the new Galaxy Watch 6 is expected to run Wear OS 4, and releasing the WhatsApp app now will make Wear OS more appealing to WhatsApp’s 2.24 billion active users.

WhatsApp has a massive user base, so releasing the app on Wear OS will help to expand the reach of Wear OS. This is important because Wear OS is currently a relatively small platform, and Meta is looking to grow its wearable presence.

Wear OS is an established platform, which means that there is already a large user base and a wide range of apps available. This makes it a good platform for Meta to expand its wearable presence, especially since it shelved its own smartwatch ambitions last year.

Google Maps home and work shortcut isn’t properly working on Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 5

Google Maps Wear OS

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 series are powered by the Wear OS 3.0 operating system and support a variety of applications found on Android smartphones. As a result, the South Korean tech behemoth has abandoned TizenOS in favor of Wear OS. Users of the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 5 can use multiple Android apps through the wrist, including Google Maps, which is currently not working on these watches.

According to the latest information, with the latest Google Maps Wear OS update, the majority of Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 5 users have complained that the home and work shortcut keys do not work properly. Users of smartwatches have reported that the latest update to this app has affected the home and work navigation shortcuts.

The Google Maps app is requesting users to add the address to places even though those addresses have already been added, despite the fact that these shortcuts are intended to launch navigation to a user’s home or place of employment. Because the address already exists in the user’s smartphone app, they are unable to add it.

TelegramAside from Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 5 users, Pixel Watch users are also experiencing the same issue. We’re hoping that Google will address this issue in the near future with an update to the Google Maps Wear OS firmware.

How to recover from this issue:

If you own a Galaxy Watch 4 or Watch 5, you must first uninstall Google Maps and then you can install it. If you encounter this issue again, you should reinstall the previous Google Maps Wear OS version on your smartwatches to resolve the home and work shortcut issues.
