Fire-Boltt overtakes Samsung to become world’s second largest smartwatch brand

Samsung smartwatches saw a 15% increase in shipments in North America in Q1, but faced a decline of 15% year-on-year and 21% quarter-on-quarter in other markets. Despite their success in North America, Samsung lost its 2nd place globally to Indian brand Fire-Boltt. Fire-Boltt achieved a 9% shipment share in Q1, narrowly surpassing Samsung, which also had a 9% share. Apple, on the other hand, experienced a drop in global smartwatch shipment share from 32% in Q1 2022 to 26% in Q1 2023, but remained the leader in the smartwatch market.
Huawei’s smartwatch shipments in China declined by 15% in Q1 2023. Despite increased shipments in regions like LATAM, MEA, and India, Huawei lost 9% of its global shipment share. Unfortunately, these efforts were not enough to prevent Huawei from losing its position on the global smartwatch leaderboard.
India’s smartwatch market grew due to affordable options
Fire-Boltt’s victory over Samsung in the global smartwatch market can be attributed to the growth of the smartwatch market in India. While the markets in China, North America, and the rest of the world experienced a decline in smartwatch shipments in Q1 2023, India saw a significant increase from 12% in Q1 2022 to 27% in Q1 2023. Fire-Boltt, being a local brand, emerged as the dominant player in the Indian market.

Fire-Boltt’s success can be attributed to its offering of more affordable smartwatches. Analysts have noted that India’s wearable market experienced a remarkable 121% year-on-year growth, driven by factors such as lower prices, increased customer demand, and the availability of smartwatches covering a wider price range compared to other markets.
The market analysis considers two types of smartwatches: HLOS (High-Level Operating System) smartwatches like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Apple Watch, as well as basic smartwatches with a lighter OS version that don’t support third-party apps. Basic smartwatches are cheaper and gaining popularity faster, particularly in markets like India. They are increasingly seen as viable alternatives to smart bands, contributing to their growing demand.

Samsung is not regular for Galaxy Watch software updates

The popularity of Samsung’s smartwatch has increased since the company left the Tizen OS operating system and tied up with Google’s Wear OS system. Samsung’s first Wear OS smartwatch was the Galaxy Watch 4 which was very popular in the market. But somewhere Samsung is not regular to roll out the new software updates for the Galaxy Watches as compared to the Galaxy smartphones.
As we know, the software section of Samsung is very big and great, the company has rolled out new features, fixes, improvements and much more with the OTA for older Galaxy devices. But what about the Galaxy Smartwatches? I am not targeting only the Galaxy Watch 4 series, the company has also lacked to send the new software update for the Galaxy Watch 5 series, which is the new generation wearable device of the company.
As we have seen, Samsung has rollout software updates every month for most of the Galaxy smartphones, in which the users have received new features, device stability improvements, monthly security patches and much more. On the other hand, the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 5 are not able to get the monthly patches.
However, they said that the Galaxy smartwatches do not require monthly patch updates. That is why there is no schedule by the company to roll out the firmware update for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 5 every month. On the other hand, the company has only pushed the Wear OS update for the Galaxy Watches which is a major update for users which brings the new features, fixes known issue bugs and turned with the new Wear OS version.

Bing AI has indeed become stronger on Galaxy phones and tablets. While Samsung has decided not to replace Google Search with Bing as the default search engine, Bing AI has been integrated into Microsoft’s SwiftKey keyboard, which comes pre-loaded as an optional keyboard in Samsung’s One UI.
This means that Bing AI is now available on numerous Galaxy devices, although its functionality may vary depending on the user’s location or preference for the Samsung Keyboard.
Bing AI is a generative AI similar to ChatGPT or Google Bard. It has conversational abilities, can generate text, and provide on-the-fly answers using a vast pool of knowledge gathered from the open internet. Its cloud-based infrastructure enables it to tap into a wealth of information and provide helpful responses to user queries.
