One of the most admired aspects of Android is unquestionably the freedom that the system provides the user, freedom that frequently translates into a variety of customization options, both functional and graphic. We can change the system theme or the appearance of individual applications, such as Gboard, using the robot.

The Google keyboard application boasts a huge number of themes available to users, to customize the appearance of the keyboard of their device, but in certain contexts, these may not be enough to embrace everyone’s tastes. Creating a custom theme is not an operation for everyone, and it is for this reason that two XDA developers have created applications to allow everyone to perform these operations independently: today we are talking about Rboard Theme Creator and Rboard Patcher.

Create a Gboard theme with Rboard Theme Creator:

Rboard Theme Creator is a new Android app that allows anyone to create a custom theme for Gboard, without the need to use a computer, directly from their smartphone; in fact, the application takes care of everything, without the need for the user to compile the package of themes.

Once you have downloaded the application from the Play Store (find the relative badge below), you will see the circular dial for the color selection, once identified you can select the coloring scheme and adapt it to your liking for each component of the user interface; at the bottom, there is also a preview of the keyboard to give you the opportunity to see the changes gradually introduced.

Once finished, through the share button at the bottom left you can save your new creation, assigning it the name that best suits you.

With the “ Add theme ” button you can transfer the project directly into the Rboard Patcher application for further modifications.

Make changes to your theme with Rboard Patcher:

Rboard Patcher is a tool with different features, it allows you to customize the basic package of the theme produced by the previous app, but not only, but it also allows you to customize themes created by the community by making various changes at your discretion.

Once you have downloaded the application, open the .pack file previously created using the file selector, the app will retrieve the patches of the publicly hosted themes and list them by categories so that you can choose to act on the ones you prefer (for example a character or a rounded icon); always thanks to the share button located in the lower left corner, you can save the changes made to your creation.

With the ” Add to the manager ” button, you will be redirected to a third application (which you must have already downloaded through the official XDA thread ), Rboard Theme Manager, which is essential to apply the newly created theme. It should be noted that to make all the above changes and customize the Gboard theme to your liking, you need root permissions on the device you want to customize.
