China Unicom’s official Micro announced today that the Huawei P50 Pro 5G Communications Shell will start pre-sale on June 10 and will officially go on sale on June 17, priced at 799(120$)Yuan, and will be launched by China Unicom.

China Unicom also said that during the listing event, if you purchase a 5G communication shell and activate China Unicom’s eSIM, you can also enjoy a discount on eSIM service charges.

We learned from a Chinese forum that this product is developed and manufactured by Soylink by embedding an eSIM chip and a 5G modem in the mobile phone case to upgrade the mobile phone network from 4G to 5G. The official configuration data shows that the “5G communication case” weighs about 52 grams, the thickness of the large surface is about 3.2 mm, and it matches the light gray color and leather material.

The first product launched this time is suitable for the Huawei P50 Pro model, and it is reported that customization support will be rolled out to more manufacturers and more models in the future. This product only needs to activate the eSIM service under a mobile phone’s main card to get the 5G network experience.

In terms of operation steps, users who use the “5G communication shell” for the first time only need to select a main card, activate the operator’s eSIM service with the support of the main card, and follow the mobile phone operation guidelines to experience 5G data access to the Internet. At the same time, the main card of the mobile phone and the eSIM network signal of the “5G communication shell” are merged into one card and displayed in the mobile phone signal bar.

“5G Communication Shell” has been supported by the three major domestic operators, but this time it was launched by China Unicom, which means that it does not support the services of other operators and needs to wait for subsequent versions of other operators.

Huawei Mate X3 costs as much as Galaxy Z Fold 4 and A54 combined

Galaxy Z fold 4

Huawei has released its new Mate X3 foldable phone in Europe. It costs €2,200. This is more expensive than the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy A54 combined, which cost €1,799 and €249, respectively. The Mate X3 is Huawei’s most premium foldable phone to date. It has a book-like form factor and is a direct competitor to the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Google’s first foldable phone, the Pixel Fold.

The Mate X3 has a 7.85-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and has 256GB of storage. The phone has a quad-camera system on the back, consisting of a 50MP main sensor, a 13MP ultrawide sensor, an 8MP telephoto sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor. The front-facing camera is 8MP. The Mate X3 has a 4800mAh battery and supports 66W fast charging.

The Huawei Mate X3 is nearly the same price as both the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy A54 combined. Sometimes, you can even find discounts on the Samsung devices, making them even more affordable.

Huawei is selling its Mate X3 foldable phone for €2,200. This includes a free Watch GT3 smartwatch. However, the smartwatch costs €189, so the phone is still €211 more expensive than the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

The Mate X3 has an IPX8 water resistance rating and the same Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC as the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Whether the Mate X3 is worth the extra money is up to the individual consumer.

Proprietary expandable memory formats are not as helpful as you might believe

Huawei’s Mate X3 has an unusual feature: expandable storage based on their Nano Memory (NM) technology. However, these NM memory cards are only compatible with Huawei phones and not practical for customers looking to transfer files. The NM format seems designed to lock customers into using proprietary memory expansion technology exclusively with Huawei devices.

Huawei Mate X3 is a very expensive foldable phone. It is more expensive than Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy A54 combined. It doesn’t have access to Google Play Store and it is difficult to install apps. It is not worth the price.
