How to get a GMS notification on Huawei HMS

As we know it Huawei does not implement any of Google’s services above all its smartphones. This tough decision was taken by the company after it was banned in the US. So, If you have bought a smartphone that has been made after this decision, then you will not have GMS (Google Mobile Services) in it.
Huawei’s smartphone users get the facility of HMS (Huawei Mobile Services) instead of GMS (Google Mobile Services) which is more than capable but unfortunately, some apps require GMS for their notifications. So let’s check how you can fix this?
Enter microG. microG is a free-to-use “re-implementation of Google’s proprietary Android user space apps and libraries”. Basically, it adds some of the functionality of GMS to your smartphone.
Step 1
Go to https://microg.org/download.html
Step 2
Your devices browser should tell you when each download has finished. This is usually by a little bar at the bottom of the browser which will also have the option to open the download. Press on the open option and follow the instructions to install it. The first time you do this you may be told that you need to give the browser permission to install applications. If so simply follow the instructions on your screen and allow it.
Step 3
Look for the microG settings. This will be wherever your apps are, be it on the homepage or in the app drawer depending on how you have set your launcher. the icon will look like this
And once open you will see this
Click on Self-Check at the top and you will see
Follow the instructions you see above to give microG the permissions it requires. Just touch where it says and approve the permission request that will pop up. For the location one I suggest setting it to always have access to your location. The same applies to the battery optimisation. You should then see this.
And can now proceed on to.
Step 4
Press the back arrow at the top left to return to the microG settings then press where it says Google device registration. You should see this.
Press the grey bar where it says Register device and it should change to look like this.
Now press the back arrow and repeat this for Cloud Messaging and Google SafetyNet. The wording in the grey bar will be different but it will work the same way.
Ignore the Account option as you will not be able to add an account as it will always fail and is, in my experience, not necessary.
Step 5
Might not be necessary but it wouldn’t hurt to reboot your device.
Once your device has restarted you should be good to go.
