Huawei Unveils HarmonyOS NEXT Beta at HDC 2024
At the HDC 2024 event, Huawei introduced the HarmonyOS NEXT beta. The company also initiated developer beta testing for three major devices: the Mate 60 Pro, the Mate X5 foldable, and the MatePad Pro 13.2 tablet.
Despite the focus on premium models, Pura 70 smartphones are also included in the HarmonyOS NEXT developer beta testing. Initially, the official timeline indicated that this lineup would receive the developer beta in August.
Huawei has already started adapting HarmonyOS NEXT for the Pura 70 series, with the process now underway for these top-end handsets.
Apart from the Pura devices, the roadmap includes the Pocket 2 series, MatePad Pro 11 2024, and FreeBuds Pro 3 in the beta list for August. Huawei may soon start software adaptation for these models.
The Pura 70 series is preparing for the HarmonyOS NEXT beta version, with the stable build expected in Q4 2024 as part of the first batch of devices.
The tipster previously reported that the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta development is complete and has entered stability testing for device compatibility. Huawei may soon start this testing with the Pura 70 models.
The Pura 70 series, which came with HarmonyOS 4.2 and AI features, includes four models with triple-lens cameras for enhanced photography. It will be interesting to see how the new software improves the device’s performance.

Huawei Launches New ‘Scan to Go’ Feature with HarmonyOS NEXT
Huawei has introduced a new ‘Scan to Go’ feature with HarmonyOS NEXT. This enhancement improves the existing code-scanning feature, simplifying the process and reducing the steps needed to scan a QR code for various tasks.
An ordinary code scan feature requires several steps to complete the task. Users need to scan the QR code, after which the feature identifies the app to which the QR code belongs, finds the app, opens it, and then searches for the scan code entry again.
This process is often time-consuming. However, Huawei has changed this with HarmonyOS NEXT. The new ‘Scan to Go’ feature allows users to enter the code interface of any app directly, eliminating the need for multiple taps and a lengthy procedure.
If you don’t have the required app on your Huawei device, the ‘Scan to Go’ feature will automatically direct you to the app’s download page on the AppGallery for easy access.
The ‘Scan to Go’ feature in HarmonyOS NEXT supports all types of QR codes and is available in the camera app of Huawei devices. Users can also add this feature to the control center or the lock screen for added convenience.
The feature supports a ‘one-click scan’ whether your phone is locked or unlocked, allowing you to use it for payments, ordering food, booking rides, paying rent and electricity bills, express deliveries, and more.
‘Scan to Go’ also includes automatic zoom, capable of scanning an 18 x 18 cm code from 18 meters away under appropriate lighting conditions. In low light, it achieves 92% accuracy using low-light algorithms with a scanning delay of 550 ms.
This is just the beginning, and there could be even more hidden features that Huawei will reveal to consumers with the first beta rollout in the coming months.

HarmonyOS NEXT Lands in 2024: Huawei CEO Sets Big Goals
Huawei’s big boss just hinted at exciting new things for their software in 2024! Expect fresh products built on their latest HarmonyOS NEXT system.
During the Fan Club (Pollen) Annual Conference 2023, Yu Chengdong announced that Huawei plans to reveal several advanced products next year. He also predicted the launch of HarmonyOS NEXT products and improved native application experiences in 2024.
The CEO didn’t share when exactly the new software and native applications would be released, but we can anticipate the official reveal to happen in early 2024.
Huawei needs to make HarmonyOS fully independent and essential without relying on Android libraries soon. Hopefully, the company will speed up its efforts in the coming days.
Many app developers, such as Alipay, McDonald’s, HiPaint, Bank of Communications, and others, have joined native app development for HarmonyOS. The goal is to create a strong app ecosystem independent of Android and iOS.
Huawei is set to offer HarmonyOS-based courses, with approval for 55 projects and over 10 universities planning to launch these courses soon.
Huawei plans to introduce apps in more than 18 categories, focusing on digital and financial sectors. According to Yu Chengdong, these native HarmonyOS applications aim to be smoother, smarter, safer, and more comprehensive compared to iOS and Android.
