Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5

Get ready for Samsung’s latest foldables! The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 launch today, July 9th, and will feature the brand new One UI 8 software. Interestingly, Samsung has been giving some of its older foldable phones, like the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5, an early taste of One UI 8 through ongoing testing.

Samsung is clearly prioritizing its current foldable phone users. Evidence of One UI 8 testing has emerged for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 (build F731BXXU5FYG2) and Galaxy Z Fold 5 (build F946BXXU5FYG2), indicating that the major software update is well underway for these devices.

When running One UI 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 showed noticeably stronger performance on Geekbench compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The Fold 5 achieved scores of 1995 (single-core) and 5055 (multi-core), while the Flip 5 scored 1503 and 2651 respectively. This indicates a smoother experience with One UI 8 on the Z Fold 5.

Currently, the One UI 8 public beta program is only open to the Galaxy S25 series. While older phones like the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5 are not included in this public beta, Samsung is actively testing One UI 8 on them internally. It appears Samsung is running a smaller beta program this time around.

Although the One UI 8 beta program is currently restricted to the Galaxy S25 series, the impending official release of One UI 8 will introduce a range of new features and an enhanced user experience across compatible devices. With the Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for today, July 9th, expected to formally unveil One UI 8, the appearance of recent test build.
