Ascend 910

Huawei’s new AI chip, Ascend 910 C, is reportedly going into mass consignment next month. A recent report indicate  this move is to provide Chinese customers with preference to Nvidia’s H20.

According to Reuters, Huawei Ascend 910 C will enter the mass purchase phase as early as May. The company will begin distributing  its latest AI chip on a large scale on its home turf, as the US is blocking Navida H2o sale in China.

The Ascend 910C erupted  in August 2024. Reports indicated that Huawei had been secretly testing this new AI chip to rival Nvidia in China’s AI industry.

They also gave samples of the new chip to big tech companies in China and began taking orders. This helps Huawei become a bigger player in AI and challenge Nvidia’s customer base.

The Ascend 910C is also part of the Deep Seek R1 system and is reported to get about 60% of the inference performance of an Nvidia H100.It looks like Huawei is now ready to start shipping large amounts of this new AI processor to take the place of Nvidia’s H20.

Reports show Huawei has already made some shipments of the Ascend 910 C AI. The fact that the US placed new chip controls on Nvidia, blocking their H20 sales in China, was good news for Chinese AI businesses.

The Trump administration has made it so that Nvidia has to have a $5.5 billion export license to send H20 chips to China. Read more here.

For the Ascend 910C, Huawei improved the design instead of changing the technology. They took two 910B chips and put them together in one package using advanced tech. This means the new chip has twice the processing power and memory, plus some minor upgrades and support for various AI.
